Stop what you are doing right now and make sure that you read this post!!!! It is going to be LIFE CHANGING!! TRUST ME!!! If you are looking for a way to make your skin look better, treat breakouts, minimize the looks of your scars then look no further…..(just in your kitchen)….. BANANAS. Yes, you heard me, plain old Bananas that you have sitting in your fruit bowl. They are so good for you, not only because of their nutritional value, but also for the vast number of beauty benefits. Bananas are an excellent source of vitamins and minerals such as: B6 & C, manganese, potassium, fiber, copper and biotin (which you see as an ingredient in many beauty products). They help with your cardiovascular health, digestion, and even endurance.
But for today, instead of giving you a nutritional breakdown, I’m going to give you my Top 3 Banana Beauty Tips that I’ve used over the years and have noticed a dramatic difference with.
Acne (Breakouts & Scars)
How many times have we all woken up in the morning only to be greeted with a huge honker on our face. It’s red, inflamed and not to mention an eye sore! To minimize redness and scars take some banana peel and rub it in a circular motion on and around the infected area. I usually rub it until the peel starts to turn slightly brown and that way I know that I’ve rubbed enough of the peel on my face. I usually let the banana sit on the infected area for at least 30 minutes before washing it off, or if I’m applying it at night, I sleep with it on and wash it off in the morning. Just remember to put a towel over your pillow. The banana peel contains zinc in it which helps fight the germs that cause acne. Continue using the peel on your face for a few days and you will notice that your acne breakout will be treated and your scars will begin to diminish.
Dry skin is not sexy, especially in the winter time when the air is bitter and there is a lack of moisture. Sometimes no matter how much water you drink it still isn’t enough to make your skin look healthy and glowy (totally not a word, but I’m going with it anyways). Next time your skin needs a little H20 TLC mash up a ripe banana and smear it all over your face to create a mini-facial mask avoiding your eyes. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes as you check Instagram (or read more of my blog posts 😇) then wash it off with cold water using a face towel. You will immediately notice how soft, silky and hydrated your face will feel!
Body scrubs are great for removing dead skin leaving it looking healthy and feeling rejuvenated. I use bananas in conjunction with either oats, sugar or baking soda as the exfoliant. For this body scrub, mash up a banana and mix it with 1 tablespoon of your exfoliant of choice and rub it all over your body working the granules into the skin. Because bananas are full of anti-oxidants it will help moisturize and nourish the skin as the exfoliant gets rid of the dead skin.
This is only the beginning, I have merely just scratched the surface with the multitude of beauty benefits that bananas contain. There are tones of recipes for masks and scrubs that you can find online, especially on Pintrest.
