Honestly….I’m just in love! – Part 1: Baby, Bath & Body

So it’s no big secret that I’m a sucker for things that are all-natural and good for you.  When I found out that I was pregnant, I knew that I wanted to use products that would be safe, eco-friendly and of course stylish, so when I heard about The Honest Company, I was all about it!  If you have never heard about them let me give you a quick 101.The company was founded by Golden Globe-nominated actress Jessica Alba and child health and wellness advocate Christopher Gavigan back in 2012.  The two joined forces to create everyday, household products that help give your children a healthy and safe start to life with natural and non-toxic ingredients.  Over the past 3 years, the company has grown and is now worth $1 billion dollars!  If you are interested in finding out more about the company and what they stand for click here to get their full story.

Anyways, getting back to why I decided to jump on the honest-bandwagon.  Over the past few years, my husband and I have been transitioning towards living a ‘clean’ lifestyle as much as possible.  We really try to make an effort to be aware of what we were putting in and on our bodies.  That being said, when I heard about The Honest Company and what they stood for, it just made sense to me.  I began by first ordering their ‘Free Trial Diaper & Essentials Bundle’ which only cost me $5.95 for s&h.

I had ordered the bundles before my son was born, and had ordered the newborn diapers but found that they were too big for him.  He was 7lbs 3 oz and 50 cm tall at birth which is average weight and height for a newborn, so I’m not quite sure why they didn’t fit.  I actually wasn’t able to use the diapers for him until he was almost a month old and ended up using Pampers Swaddlers which the hospital gave me.  The two things that I liked about the Pampers Swaddlers in comparison to the Honest diapers was that they were softer and had the wetness indicator on them which help when you’re a first-time parent.  What I didn’t like was that they actually gave my son a diaper rash which ended up turning into a mild yeast infection (poor kiddo).  Ever since I started to use the Honest diapers, he hasn’t had a single rash or infection wooo hoo!!

Since I use a lot of their products, I always have people asking me what I think about them.  Now, I do have a tendency of preaching to the choir when I love something  (I can’t help it, I feel like you need all the info!)  I promise that I will try to keep this short but if you just want a quick run-down of my top 8 products, check out my Honest and Dirty Review.  However, if you’re like me and you’re looking for a little more then keep reading.  In this review I’m only going to be talking about baby, bath & body products.  Make sure to check our Part 2 where I talk about the Household, Health & Wellness products.  As I was going around my house collecting everything that I wanted to write about, I didn’t realize how much I had – hence the 2 posts!  #honestaddict ?

Anyways, enough with the chit-chat, let’s get started!

Honest DiapersDiapers:
Absolutely love them and they are super cute!  However, I find that they aren’t as absorbent at times but the developers at The Honest Company listened to their customers (aka MOI ?) and re-designed their diapers!  The new designs have longer and stretchier tabs which have drastically improved the fit.  The few leaks and blowouts that I have had is probably because my son likes to be an acrobat in his sleep or it is just one of those diapers – eeek! ….. Butt I guess that comes with the territory! ?

wipes

Wipes (large pack & travel):
The wipes are scent free and textured which are amazing for wiping and cleaning up those messy diapers I was mentioning above.  I like that they aren’t too wet so that there isn’t any moisture left when you tie on a new diaper.  I’ve used Pampers Natural Clean wipes and I did like how gentle they were, but I found that they would leave a lot more moisture on the tuchus.  The only issue I have is with the travel pack.  You only get 10 wipes and lord knows that when you got a little one and are out all day that is not enough!

Healing BalmHealing Balm A.K.A. Magic Goo in a Tube:
Aaahhhhhhh (angels sing when you use this stuff!)  It is aah-mazing at healing ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING!  From scrapes and rashes to burns and dryness, it provides instant relief and minimizes scars.  I would have to say that this product is my absolute favorite and at any given time you can see me ordering a few!  I keep a tube of this by my bed and use it at night for my hands and feet, and an overall moisturizer especially when dealing with Canadian winters! ❄️

Face & Body LotionFace and Body Lotion:
This has to be one of the silkiest, the most smoothest lotions I have ever tried!  I use this every morning for both myself and for my son and a little bit goes a long way!  I just recently got another bottle, after 9 months – talk about bang for your buck!

Honest Bubble BathHonest Bubble Bath:
Tear-free and gentle this bubble bath is a dream!  I use it every night at bath time and you only need to pour a small amount (the size of a dime) and you get a lot of bubbles.  I love that it contains chamomile and calendula which help calm your baby and gets them ready for bed.  I also just received a new bottle of this because I’m almost finished with my first one, so again you are definitely getting your money’s worth!

Organic Body OilOrganic Body Oil:
Love the mild, sweet orange scent.  I use this every night to give my son a massage after his bath and I like the fact that it doesn’t leave any greasy residue on him and stain his clothes (like some other baby oils out there!).  I’ve also used this in my hair to tame the mane (wavy-hair problems …. you know how it is).

baby powderOrganic Baby Powder:
All natural and talc free.  I dust a little bit of this every night in Z’s diaper to help absorb moisture while he is sleeping. Unlike other baby powders that create a dust storm, this has virtually nothing.  I’ve had the same bottle since he’s been born and I still have 3/4 left!

diaper rash creamHonest Diaper Rash Cream:
Thank god I had this on hand!!!!  I had ordered this before Z was born along with some other products because, let’s face it, I have a slight problem of needing everything when I fall in love with something ?.  Anyways, when poor baby got a yeast infection from the *cough* Pamper Swaddlers *cough* I used this on him and it cleared up in a few days.  The formulation is nice and thick, but unlike Destin or Sudocrem that just stick to the skin, I find this one has a little more moisture and absorbed nicely in the skin.

soothing bottom washHonest Soothing Bottom Wash:
I love using this to help keep Z’s bottom clean.  I use this every morning when he wakes up-all you need is a little spritz and you’re good to go.  It has a mild and fresh scent which is really pleasant.

breath easyOrganic Breathe Easy Rub:
No one likes being congested, especially babies.  When they’re all stuffed up and can’t breath EVERYONE has a difficult time getting a good night’s sleep.  When Z is congested, I rub a little bit on his chest, back, sinus area and on the bottom of his feet before I put him down.  The organic eucalyptus and tea tree oils help him breathe easy (hence the name).

baby bottleHonest Baby Bottle:
Take Great Diet Research shows that heavy consumption of fatty, fried, canned and even processed foods may be responsible for decreased blood in the body. sildenafil side effects So, all the cost along with the medicine production cost buy cialis is low. Today, it is giving a tough competition to generic cialis canadian unica-web.com especially in the UK. buy brand cialis Its intake aids facilitate the blood circulation of genitals can disrupt erectile function.
I decided to try this bottle out because around 3 1/2 months, Z decided that he didn’t want to take a bottle anymore and just be nursed 24/7.  Where I was able to get him to take 1 bottle a day of pumped milk he decided to go on strike and refused every bottle that I tried….until I gave him this one.  Because the body of the bottle is made from silicone as opposed to plastic, it mimics the feeling of the breast and feels the most natural to babies.  I don’t have any issues now with him going between the breast and the bottle.

nipple balmOrganic Nipple Balm:
SAVED MY LIFE!!!  In the beginning, you and baby have no idea what you’re doing.  It’s a learning curve for both of you and no matter what you do, you will be sore at first.  I used this before feedings, after feedings, heck whenever the girls felt like they needed a little TLC I slapped this stuff on!  The mild, silky formula hydrated and moisturized the area.  Because it is made with all natural and food-grade ingredients I didn’t have to worry about wiping it off before nursing. ?

Bug SprayBug Spray:
Comes in an easy to use pump as opposed to an aerosol can which I like.  The scent is a little strong but I really don’t mind it and a little bit goes a long way.  As someone who is always on the buffet list for mosquitos, I have found this to be the most effective bug spray that I’ve used! (No wonder they’re always sold out of this stuff!)

sun screenSun Screen:
Comes in a small tube that is easy to pack on the go and it also doesn’t smell.  I used this all summer for myself, hubby and baby Z.  Unlike other sunscreens that go on like a lotion, this one has a thicker formulation and can sometimes feel a little tacky on the skin if you’re heavy handed in applying it – so use it sparingly.

IMG_3826-0Baby DHA:
I put a little bit of this in Z’s breakfast every morning to help with brain, eye & vascular development.  I can’t say that I’ve noticed any difference in him, but I like using it knowing that he is getting extra vitamins and minerals that he maybe lacking in his diet or mine.

multi powderBaby + Toddler Multi Powder
Like the Baby DHA, I also mix a sachet of the Multi Powder in Z’s breakfast.  It’s made with a blend of 26 organic fruits and veggies in addition to superfoods and probiotics.  It’s loaded with essential minerals and vitamins to help support healthy growth and development.

teetherHonest Teether:
It’s super cute and easy to hold.  The butterfly is textured and really helps to massage the gums and provide relief to your teething baby.  Z loves his teether and is always playing with it.  I sometimes even place it in the refrigerator for a few hours so that it gets nice and cold for him.

imageOrganic Lip Balm Trio:
The lip balm comes in a cute little pack in 3 different varieties.  Lavender Mint – soothing and minty, Sweet Orange Vanilla – sweet and satisfying (reminds me of Terry’s orange chocolate) & Purely Simple – gentle enough that I use it on Z when it’s cold outside.  What I like about them is that they are creamy and your lips stay and feel hydrated for a long time.  I hate lip balms that end up giving you white residue on your lips – yuck!  With the trio you don’t have to worry about that!

IMG_3838Foaming Hand Soap:
Love this stuff!!  I have one in Z’s bathroom (lavender) and another one that I keep in the kitchen (lemongrass).  Both smell amazing and leave your hands squeaky clean and not dry.  The formulation reminds me of Bath & Body Works’ foaming soap but I prefer the lather on this one.

IMG_3832Hand Sanitizer Gel:
Must have!!  You can never have too much hand sanitizer laying around especially when you have little ones!  I keep the travel size in my diaper bad at all times and keep the full size bottle at my diaper changing station. The smell isn’t strong and unlike other sanitizers, your hands don’t feel sticky and it doesn’t dry them out as much.
